When you create an account or use our services, we may collect: your name, email address, phone number, professional background and skills, country and timezone. We also collect usage information such as browsing activity, session duration, and IP address to help improve our services.

We use the information we collect to: provide and operate the mentoring platform, match mentees with appropriate mentors, send service-related communications and notifications, improve our services, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Disclosure of Information
We may share your information with third-party service providers who assist in operating the Platform (such as hosting providers). We may also disclose information in response to legal requirements. We will not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Data Security
We employ reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
5. Your Rights

10. Sensitive and Cultural Information
When you register as a mentee, we may collect sensitive information as defined under the Australian Privacy Principle 3 (APP 3), specifically: your Indigenous identity status, your Mob or Traditional Country, and a document evidencing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity. We collect this information only with your explicit consent, given by submitting the registration form, and only for the purposes of (a) verifying eligibility for community-focused mentoring and (b) culturally appropriate matching. You are not required to provide this information to browse the Platform, and you may withdraw consent and request deletion of this information at any time by contacting us at d.foley@barayamal.com.au.
11. Storage and Retention of Identity Documents
Identity documents you upload are stored on our hosting provider's secure servers and are accessible only to authorised Barayamal staff for the purposes of verification. We retain these documents only while your account is active. On account closure or a verified deletion request, identity documents are destroyed within 90 days, unless retention is required by law. We do not share identity documents with other users, mentors, or third parties.
12. Vouching by an Existing Mentor
During registration you may nominate an existing Barayamal mentor to vouch for you. If you do, we may contact that mentor to confirm they are willing to vouch. The named mentor is told your name and that you have nominated them; they are not shown your uploaded identity documents. You may withdraw a vouching nomination at any time before it is actioned by contacting us.
13. Nature of the Platform
Barayamal provides a platform for connecting mentees with mentors and Allies. While we take reasonable steps to verify identity as described above, we do not conduct background checks, working-with-children checks, or professional-credential checks on mentors unless specifically stated. Users are expected to exercise their own judgement when arranging and conducting mentoring interactions. Barayamal is not a party to any mentoring relationship formed through the Platform.
